MCC FOUNDATION HUBS BACKGROUND
The MCC Foundation was founded in 1993 as the charitable arm of MCC. MCC – Marylebone Cricket Club – owns Lord’s Cricket Ground, and also has a remit to promote and develop the game.
Since 2011, the Foundation’s flagship programme has been the development of a network of Cricket Hubs across the UK, providing free cricket coaching to state-educated children aged 11-15.
The Hubs aim to remove financial barriers to help young players achieve their goals, whether that be excelling in Club matches over summer, or competing for places in district, borough, and county age-group teams.
The Hubs are also working to combat the disappearance of cricket from state secondary schools; 93% of the population attend state schools, but only 1% of state-educated 11-18 year olds play regular cricket.
In 2021/22, the Foundation will run 74 Hubs across the UK. The Hubs are funded by donations from a range of philanthropic individuals, trusts, corporate sponsors, and MCC itself.
