A Review of this years Disability Cricket Campaign
Summer of 2023 has been a fantastic one for disability cricket in Berkshire. Each week has seen over 30 participants take part in our Lords Taverners funded Super 1’s programme at Holyport Cricket Club, Slough Cricket Club and Bulmershe Leisure Centre respectively. Falkland Cricket has also continued to offer disability cricket through its inclusive session that takes place each Tuesday.
In June we hosted our first ever Super 1’s disability festival at Holyport Cricket Club which saw 6 teams compete against each other to become Berkshire’s first ever disability champions. Over 70 young people with a disability took to the field which also saw local MP and former Prime Minister Theresea May pay a visit. Due to the success of the tournament, we took a Berkshire team to Buckinghamshire to compete in their tournament. The team was made up of players from our Super 1’s programme. Despite having never played together, the team instantly clicked and managed to win 4 of their 5 games to take home the trophy (picture attached).
To build on our success, Berkshire Cricket will continue to offer weekly inclusive cricket over the winter months. Hubs will be available in Maidenhead, Reading, Slough and Newbury (Falkland CC). For more information on our hubs please contact Chris Baker chris.baker@berkshirecricketfoundation.org
