Gabi Jones - Crowthorne & CW CC - Rising Star
Crowthorne & Crown Wood CC had another award winner in Gabriella Jones. Gabi was awarded the Rising Star Award for Berkshire. The Rising Star Award is given to a “young volunteer making a difference 11-16 years old.” The award was presented by Lou Walker who nominated Gabi and Tom Jackson – BCF Club Support Manager.
While nominating Gabi, Lou said “Gabi has been passionate about forming a girls cricket team at her school; helping her PE teacher to identify pupils interested in sport but new to cricket, and encouraging them to form a softball team. She then helped coach and organise the team. Giving up free time (inside and outside school hours) to teach bowling actions and batting strategies; fielding positions and wicket keeping. The team flourished under her captaincy, getting through to the Berkshire schools finals. More new players were recruited, and Gabi always made sure they had a positive first experience of cricket. They even reached, and won, the Regional Final; where Gabi stayed calm, positive and fair, determined to make the whole squad feel valued. At her club, Gabi repeatedly volunteers her time to umpire and score (having done the ECB training modules) and is always happy to teach scoring to others.”
Gabi recently completed the Young Leaders in Cricket qualification delivered by BCF for 14-16 year olds. More details can be found here about the qualification
