Trials series ends: Reading 2 - 1 Slough
After open trials earlier in the summer, a series of 3 trial matches were played between City Cup squads representing Slough & Reading:
In the first game, at Stoke Green CC, the Slough squad struggled to 72 all out. Reading managed to chase it down, for the loss of 5 wickets, lead by Asim Hussain's 27*, despite Junaid Khan taking 3-12.
Reading secured the series in game 2, at Reading CC. Batting first, they made 133-3. Once again Asim Hussain leading the way with the bat. In reply, Uzair Majid made a sedate 42, but Slough fell 15 runs short, with Haris Khan taking 3-6 for Reading.
Back at Stoke Green CC for game 3, the Slough squad managed to achieve a consolation victory. Batting first, Reading could only manage 94 all out, with Haris Khan's 34 being the only score of note. Slough chased this down with ease, thanks mainly to Kieran Grey, who scored a rapid 50, off just 30 balls.
After the conclusion of this series, the coaching group had the difficult task of selecting just 12 names from across the two trial squads. They went with the following 12, who will now go on to play as Slough in the ECB T20 City Cup Area Finals. These will take place on Wednesday 24th July at Wokingham CC, where they will take on Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff. The successful city will then advance to a Regional and then National Finals day.
